What is causing you a 'Headache with Technology' survey

AttitudeGetting to grips with the technology you need to start an online business is like climbing a mountain, and can be... a real headache.

As you know, I'm quite comfortable around technology, but I still found it quite overwhelming when I first started my online business last year.

If you've been following along on my teleclasses over the past few  months, you'll know I've covered a variety of  topics including:

~ Setting Up An Autoresponder

~ Technology for Teleseminars

~ Getting Out of Overwhelm

~ Repurposing Your InfoProducts

~ Finding Your Target Market and Ideal Clients

~ Sales Pages

That's why I sent out a survey by email this week, as it's now time for me to evaluate these topics, but before I continue, I need to understand what is causing you pain. In other words, your headaches with technology. The first few results are filtering through  now and I can already see some of you have several real issues in understanding how online marketing all fits together.

I will definitely take ALL your opinions on board, then spend some time working out the BEST WAY I CAN HELP YOU to master the technology you need to grow and market your online business.

Many thanks for everyone who has taken the time to fill in the survey and share your opinions - I'll be in touch shortly with the results :o)

Homepreneur Products article by Jimmy D. Brown

Thinking of starting a Home-Based Business? Read what Jimmy D. Brown has to say about his product 'Homepreneur Habits'

The Top 3 Money-Making "To Do" Activities
By Jimmy D. Brown

Homprenuer-smallI've always been impressed with those who can take overwhelming things and handle them with ease and poise.  It never seemed to work that way for me, until I discovered the secret for tackling those daunting tasks.

The secret is simple:  make things simple!

With just about every major undertaking, things can be simplified into a handful of "core" components.  That makes them manageable.

Manageable fosters productivity simply because I can work on
something that seems accomplishable.  And when productivity goes up, desired results come.

I received the following question from one of my clients...

"If you have to pick, what would you say are the top 2 or 3      things we should concentrate on? I've heard the domain/site(blog) are the most important, then others say writing info products, others say lists. For short term and long term investment, what is the most important things to be working on?"

This client wants things simplified. And rightly so. He knows the secret to success is getting things down into manageable chunks.

So, what are these core practices for building an internet business?  There are three things - and three things only - that you need to concentrate on with your business...

1. Offer Development

You cannot make money online unless you have an OFFER. It's that simple. Unless there is some way for income to be generated, you can't get paid. End of discussion. Every business is founded upon a revenue-generating offer. Now, this can either be your own offer (small reports, ebooks, membership sites, coaching/consulting, advertising, etc.) or something you promote as an affiliate and earn revenue for referred sales.

7 Tips for an Extraverted Business Owner

Networking When you run your own business it's important to become more self-aware and understand what natural style you bring to your business.

For example, if you have a natural preference for extraversion there will be some areas that will serve you well, but  in other areas you'll need some development.

If you are a natural extravert you'll recognize some of these points:

  1. You love being the center of attention and are energized by lots of activity.
  2. Your tone is quite loud when you speak and you often interrupt other people.
  3. You have a tendency to not really listen when someone is talking as you are busy thinking up what you are going to say next.
  4. You prefer to be in amongst people rather than be on your own.
  5. You love action and often jump into new things without giving it too much thought.
  6. You have lots of friends and like to keep in touch with them regularly.
  7. When you have a problem you prefer to talk about it, rather than just think things through.
Here are a few tips for you to maximize your natural style for extraversion when you run a business and attend networking events:

5 Tips For an Introverted Business Owner

Thinking When you run a business you're expected to be the life and soul of the party. But if you're naturally more reserved you may find this difficult. If you're more introverted than extraverted, you'll often dislike attending functions where you find yourself amongst a lot of people you don't know.

You probably prefer to spend time alone or with small groups of people you know. The thought of being in a large networking event with strangers can feel scary. But the thing is, when you run a business you'll need to get out of your comfort zone to network, network, network, as the marketing gurus keep telling us.

Here are five tips on how introverts can handle the networking aspect of their business:

1. If you're attending network events check to see if anyone else you know has also been invited and go along with them.

2. Practice your elevator speech, this is one or two sentences describing who you are and what you do. Prepare this beforehand as well as your USP (unique selling point)  then you won't have to 'think on your feet'.

7 Tips to Help You Find Content for Your Ezine

Ezine_news Looking for a good way to stay in touch with the people who visit your blog or website? I do this by offering weekly teleclasses (listen in to one of my recent calls here), but you may want to consider sending out an ezine, or electronic newsletters. This is a great way to share good content, introduce your infoproducts or services and promote other people's products.

A word of warning though, preparing a weekly ezine can really sap your time, deadlines need to be met. If you run your online business alone then be mindful of how much time you can actually allocate to preparing a weekly newsletter.

If you already have lots of content that's a great, but if you're still struggling to find good quality information for your target market then perhaps you need to ask yourself if you will be able to maintain a blog or website with so little content? Perhaps you need to re-think your niche market.

How to Find and Market to Your Ideal Clients When You Run a Home-Based Business

20 Ways to Make $100 Per Day Online You may already have started your own home-based business and be up and running, but for those of you still doing your research, this article should help you work out who are your ideal customers and how to market to them.

Don't be under the impression that everyone will be your customer, as it's very difficult to be 'all things to all people' this is just too broad. You'll need to narrow down your focus and understand how to offer the right goods and services to the right people to make a profit in your home-based business.

If you've been following me on my blog or listening in on my free teleclasses, you'll know by now that my ideal target market comprises of small home-business owners who struggle to master the technology they need to market their business online. They are mainly  female, usually mothers who juggle home-life and work-life and are mainly aged between 30-55 years. They are based all over the world as thankfully, the power of the internet allows us to connect very easily via teleclasses. With this knowledge I am able to design my services to suit my ideal clients.

Here are a few of the demographics you should research to identify your ideal clients:

Age: Babies, toddlers, teenagers, young adults, middle aged, elderly

Gender: Male or female (or both)

Education/earnings: Lower or middle class, high earners, very wealthy

Marital status: Singles, married, divorced, living together as partners, widow/widowers

Locality: Local, national, or worldwide

Ethnicity: Asian, Afro-American or all groups

Religious background: One specific group or all groups

Family Life: Newly married, married with children, married no children, single parents, grandparents

After narrowing down your specific ideal market, you will have to spend some time researching the different ways you need to market to them. This can vary on their ages, gender, income and buying habits.

You may need to try several different types of marketing before you get it right.

I have found the 20 Ways to Make $100 Per Day Online report to be very useful in exploring different ways to market to different groups - I hope you find it useful too.

Are You Providing the Solutions Your Clients Need?

20 Ways to Make $100 Per Day Online If you still haven't decided what you're intending to sell online or, more importantly, who you are going to sell to, then you'll find this information really useful. Finding your 'niche' or ideal target market and the right way to market to them will be the secret to a successful online home-based business.

You may already have a traditional business, such as a service-based or coaching practice, so the next step for you is to understand how to sell and market your services and products using the power of the internet and it's 15 billion users worldwide.

When I considered putting my traditional serviced-based business online last year I looked at lots of different options, and I don't mind admitting, I ended up being more than a little confused with all the information out there.

** WHY PEOPLE SEARCH AND BUY ONLINE **

People buy for a variety of reasons, and as an internet marketer you should be solving some of their problems.

Can you help your clients solve any of the following?

1. Avoid pain - remedies, medicines

2. To save effort - groceries delivered, buy books online

3. Make money - selling products online, online betting

4. Achieve success - personal development courses, personality tests

5. Achieve happiness - online dating

6. Be entertained - videos, DVDs, CDs

7. Receive recognition - become an expert, get qualified

8. Be loved - online dating, membership to relationship sites

9. Save time - learn from an expert

10. Save money - discount offers, review sites

The first place most people look to find solutions to their problems is on the internet. So, once you've figured out how to do this for your target market or 'niche', then the next thing you need to do is choose a way to market and sell to them.

You could try teleseminars or teleclasses, or online auctions. You could even create your own info products. Some internet marketers are very successful using public domain works. In fact, the list is endless, so it's really important for you to find the right way to reach your prospective clients. It will save you a great deal of time and effort if you research the 'different routes to market' when you want to make money online.

You can check out how average people, just like you, can and do build sustainable incomes working part-time from home by reading this report from Willie Crawford 20 Ways to Make $100 Per Day Online

Search engines just LOVE video - Make One Without a Camcorder

You've probably heard already the search engines just LOVE video. Adding video or audio to your blog or website will increase your chances of being indexed by the major search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN.

You're probably panicking wondering how you're going to add video if you don't even have a  camcorder - but here's the good news. It's really easy to make a short video using Microsoft's neat little program called Photo Story 3.

What's even better, you can add photos, captions, music and really use your imagination to provide your visitors with some good quality information for free...and the search engines will find you a lot easier!

The ONE Thing That Can Affect The SUCCESS Of Your Online Business

Inform yourself about the technology you need to grow your business The one major thing that will affect the success of your internet business will be your understanding of the technology involved in  online marketing and how you can use it to your advantage.

You don't require a degree in computer science to do this, but you do need to know how to:
  • do the right things
  • in the right order
  • to get the right results
You may hear people say, "Just concentrate on what you do well and leave the techie stuff to others." You can follow that route if you want to... but it's a dangerous game when you don't even understand the strategies involved in marketing your products or services online. It takes time, effort and a good understanding of the technology involved to run a successful online business... after all, this is your main route to market, why would you want to remain uninformed about it?

Even if you come from a non-techie background, I urge you to start learning more about the technology and strategies that are so important to the success of your online business.

Here are 5 simple ways to use technology to raise your online visibility:

1. Join the latest Social Networking sites like facebook and Linkedin.

Think carefully how you will present yourself and your organization. Send out the right impression about your online business right from the start, 'cutesy' isn't always good for business.

2. Join the latest Social Media sites like Twitter

Twitter is micro-blogging software that allows you 140 characters to post a message to anyone who follows you. You can share articles you've written, blog posts, interesting research you've discovered with your followers. It also allows you direct access to your sector's 'thought leaders' (provided they too are on Twitter, of course) as you follow them and share this information with the people who follow you.

3. Write articles of around 250-400 words, cover topics to help people solve their problems. Become an expert in your field and share your knowledge.

4. Visit forums in your area of interest, make an effort to be helpful by providing solutions to other members' problems. Recent research shows 80% of people who visit forums usually lurk in the background and never contribute. Be proactive, share your knowledge... but don't give away the shop.

5. Start blogging... post regularly to everyone who wants to know more about your subject matter. Use a conversational style, don't be too formal. Give people a chance to get to know you and inject some of your personality in your writing.

Join me on facebook and Twitter

All these ways of internet marketing cost very little, but you must learn how to harness the technology to do the right things, in the right order, to get the right results.

A Lesson We Can Learn From Michelangelo

"The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high
and falling short, but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark."

Michelangelo Buonarotti

Michelangelo's frescoes in the Sistine Chapel If you've ever visited the Sistine Chapel in Rome, you'll know the incredible genius of Michelangelo. I lived in this beautiful city for 15 years and my apartment was just around the corner from the Vatican City.

I must have visited the Sistine Chapel with its beautiful frescoes on the ceiling by artist Michelangelo about 20 times.  Even today, I'm still amazed at how he had to bend backwards and paint over his head for four years to achieve his goal and leave us this beautiful masterpiece.

Why am I sharing this with you? It's because I came across the quote at the top of the page by Michelangelo, it reminded me we should not be afraid to aim too high for fear of failure... instead we should always aim high and find a way to achieve our end goal... the way he did.

Article Writing Can Boost Your Online Business

Article Writing Have you considered putting pen to paper and  becoming a published author many times? But  decided against it as you're convinced you've got nothing interesting to say? You may even think that to be an author you have to write a famous novel or be the next J.K. Rowling.

Well, you're wrong! People seeking help on the internet aren't always looking for a best-seller book. In fact, initially most people look for short snippets of information to help them solve their problems. You've done that yourself, right?

Article writing is one of the best ways to raise your online visibility. I've found since I started writing articles my online visibility has soared. Since subscribing to several article directories a few weeks ago, I was amazed to see over 5000 people worldwide have read my articles on a variety of topics from internet marketing, blogging, teleseminars, success, dating, careers, personality types or affiliate products I have used or recommend.

Remember, you already have a lot of experience of life to bring to the table. You can write about all sorts of topics too, you don't have to stay in your niche. Have a look at my articles on various topics on Ezine Articles here www.ArticlesByIrene.com

Social Networking for Your Online Business

Have you started your online business yet? If you have, then like me, you're probably finding there are just not enough hours in the day. Working for yourself means you're the accountant, marketing specialist, CEO, secretary, advertising guru and general dogsbody in your organization. When are you going to find the time to run around attending traditional networking events to find your prospective clients?

But you know, you really don't have to do all this. It's 2009 - you really should be harnessing the enormous power of the internet to help you find the people who need your services.

Social Networking for Business can really change the way you do business. This time last year I wondered where I would find the people who needed my services - but now I have people from all over the world who listen to my free weekly teleclasses and contact me on a daily basis. I've been able to build my list of people who need my services through social networking.

I didn't get caught up in all the traditional networking - that just drains you of time and energy. You'll be exhausted in a few months (if you're not already) if you're only using the traditional offline networking route. I encourage you to work smarter and develop an online strategy too, as quickly as possible.

You have to work smarter and use the power of the internet to connect with people, start to embrace Social Networking for your online business - it's way too hard to use only traditional marketing when you are a 'one man' or 'one woman' band, right?

You've got to work smarter to move your online business to the next level. I know you're convinced there are people out there who need your services - but you've got to be able to reach them for your online business to survive.

Use the Law of Reciprocity to Build Strong Relationships

Use the Law of Reciprocity to Build Strong Realtionships Reciprocity is very powerful for anyone starting an online business, do you know what it means? If you do, then you'll understand how the strong rules of influence work.

If you don't, then here's what Dictionary.com says:

Reciprocity

"A reciprocal condition or relationship. A mutual or cooperative interchange of favors or privileges, especially the exchange of rights or privileges of trade between nations."

The line that sticks out for me is 'a mutual or cooperative interchange of favors or privileges'. When you start your online business it's important to fully understand the Rule of Reciprocity, as this will be a key factor in how you connect with your readers, visitors and customers and build relationships.

It's not just a case of offering a 'free report' or 'free ezine' it goes much deeper than that. People need to make a connection with you, they have to feel comfortable using your services and buying your products. The fact you're offering 'something for nothing' is just the start of your relationship -- you'll only build strong connections by providing good quality information on a long term basis.

Once you build up trust and offer your expertise, only then will others trust you enough to reciprocate and start to pay for your services.

3 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting a Business Blog

Business Blogging Many people worry about what they are going to write when they start a blog, especially for business.

Don't worry though, you'll probably find once you start writing, it will all come quite naturally. It's a mistake to assume you have to provide deep and meaningful content. In fact, this type of information can actually turn a lot of people off reading your blog.

Most blog visitors are just looking for short, sharp tips and advice from you to solve their problems. Remember, you can always offer an in-depth service, for example, an eBook or design an eCourse and direct your visitors to the sales page (one for each product) from your short blog posts.

Business Blogging is More Popular Than Ever

Building a Blog for Business Business blogging is getting more popular everyday. Even large corporates are realizing how powerful business blogging has become. Instead of being presented with a static web pages - customers are now able to receive updates through the RSS feeds.

But you don't have to be a large organization to start a blog for your business, in fact, it is now easier than ever to get up and running.

Let me give you a few tips and advice on business blogging:

 1. Create a personal log or diary

Share your thoughts, tips or advice with your readers. Become a 'thought leader' in your sector and research new ideas to pass onto others.

2. Review other blogs and products

Review other sites and blogs in your niche market. Make sure you ask for comments and encourage your visitors to recommend your blog to others. Provide recommendations, feedback and honest critique on other people's services and products. Once your visitors know, like and trust you, they will be more comfortable following your recommendations.

3. Community blog

Community blogs are one of the best ways to grow your list of subscribers in an organic, wholesome way. Ask your visitors to share their problems with others, just like them, to hopefully find solutions. People often have natural desire to feel part of a group or community, rather than exist in isolation. Most human beings like to feel they 'belong'. You only have to look at the astronomical raise in popularity of the new social networking sites such as facebook, now reporting over 110 million users worldwide and growing everyday! Join me here as my facebook friend to experience the power of social networking.

4. Internal company blog

You may be employed in a large organization, but you can still consider using a blog to share ideas and brainstorming events. Most employees like to feel their opinion counts.

5. Affiliate marketing blog

Become an affiliate marketer and sell other people's products and services.

...the list is endless - the hardest part for you may be just getting going!

Are You Putting Personality into Your Blog?

If you want to really connect with people you'll find business blogging is now the best way forward to build a relationship with your customers. It used to be complicated to build a business blog - but not any more. Business blogging is definitely the smart way to make connections when you're selling services and products remotely.

What do blogs have that websites don't? Well, for a start a blog is a website, but it's designed in a different way to connect through Really Simple Syndication or RSS to the search engines and anyone who wishes to receive updates regularly - one thing a traditional website doesn't do.

Tweetlater If you're in back to back meetings all day, stuck on a motorway, train, or airplane... or even just playing with your kids then did you know you can still keep your online visibility up there with Tweetlater?

Keep your Twitter stream ticking over with new tweets even when you're not in front of your computer. Or, use it as your personal reminder system.
